September 2009

This the result of me ignoring the garden for weeks on end. It was just TOO HOT to go outside. It looks like a jungle. But notice the lack of weeds? I LOVE this way of gardening. It's down to the upper 90's now so I can putter in the evenings.
The sweet potatoes are spilling out on the right. The spaghetti squash vines dried up after I picked the squash. Basil, Peppers, Tomatillos, onions are still going strong. I cut back the regular tomatoes in August and you can see on the left there they are just starting to flower out again. I didn't even put shade cloth over them this year to over summer them. I think the overgrowth shaded them nicely.

Awwwww

This falls under "cutest sayings ever!" I was teaching little one about composting... how there are bugs that help break down the carrot tops we put in there to make more soil for the garden... He says, "They are the GOOD kind of bugs." looks to me for confirmation... which I supply.. and he goes back to his work of turning the compost bin..... "But they sure are HEAVY!"

June 2009

Can you see the watermelon? the spaghetti squash? The one stalk of corn?
Watermelon, winter squash, volunteer sweet potatoes Yeah!, zucchini and sweet corn. (Not all of the sweet corn came up... so I don't think there will be enough pollination to actually get any ears or corn, but they look cool!)

From the front:

 Holy zucchini batman!
